Tourism Business

In 2017, the world travel and tourism industry contributed more than $10 trillion dollars to the global economy. Of this amount, business tourism contributed a significant proportion, with a total of $1.23 trillion dollars.

Modern society transportation and infrastructure systems continue to revolutionise and therefore business tourism has the means to provide greater economic power than it has previously.

In this post, I will focus on the growing tourism industry of ‘business tourism’. I will explain what business tourism is, why business tourism is part of the tourism industry and provide a few examples of where business tourism takes place. Business tourism, or business travel, is essentially a form of travel which involves undertaking business activities that are based away from home.

The United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) defines tourists as people ‘traveling to and staying in places outside their usual environment for not more than one consecutive year for leisure, business and other purposes’, thus making business an important and integral sector of the tourism economy.

MICE

Meetings

Throughout many business excursions, the business traveller will have some form of meeting to attend during the course of their trip. Meetings may be appointments with clients; a board meeting at the present company or interstate of international branches; or an orientation meeting with staff at a new branch. Meetings can take place face-to-face or electronically using means such as Skype or FaceTime.

Convention

A convention, in the sense of a meeting, is a gathering of individuals who meet at an arranged place and time in order to discuss or engage in some common interest. The most common conventions are based upon industry, profession, and fandom. Trade conventions typically focus on a particular industry or industry segment, and feature keynote speakers, vendor displays, and other information and activities of interest to the event organizers and attendees. Professional conventions focus on issues of concern along with advancements related to the profession. Such conventions are generally organized by societies or communities dedicated to promotion of the topic of interest. Fan conventions usually feature displays, shows, and sales based on pop culture and guest celebrities.

Exhibhitions

A trade fair (trade show, trade exhibition, trade exposition, or expo) is an exhibition organized so that companies in a specific industry can showcase and demonstrate their latest products and services, meet with industry partners and customers, study activities of rivals, and examine recent market trends and opportunities. In contrast to consumer fairs, only some trade fairs are open to the public, while others can only be attended by company representatives (members of the trade, e.g. professionals) and members of the press, therefore trade shows are classified as either "public" or "trade only".

Adventure Tourism

Adventure tourism is defined as the movement of the people from one to another place outside their comfort zone for exploration or travel to remote areas, exotic and possibly hostile areas. Adventure tourism is a type of tourism in which tourist do some adventures activities like as skydiving, hill climbing, scuba diving.

• Adventure tourism is very popular among young age tourists. Adventure tourism gains much of its excitement by allowing the tourists to step outside their comfort zone. This may be from experiencing cultural shock or through the performance of acts, that required some degree of risk (real or perceived) and physical danger.

• Adventure travel is a leisure activity that takes place in an unusual, exotic, remote or wilderness destination. It tends to be associated with high levels of activity by the participant, most of it outdoors.  Adventure travelers expect to experience various level of risk, excitement, and tranquility and be personally tested. 

• Canadian Tourism Commission in 1995 defines adventure tourism as, “an outdoor leisure activity that takes place in an unusual, exotic, remote or wilderness destination, involves some form of unconventional means of transportation, and tends to be associated with low or high levels of activity.”

Todays customer prefer more of adventure activities. Hence, focus more on providing adventure activity.

Providing tour packages to nearby destinations : Excursion trip

 What is excursion ?

An excursion is a trip by a group of people, usually made for leisure, education, or physical purposes. It is often an adjunct to a longer journey or visit a place, sometimes for other (typically work-related) purposes.

Public transportation companies issue reduced price excursion tickets to attract business of this type. Often these tickets are restricted to off-peak days or times for the destination concerned.

Short excursions for education or for observations of natural phenomena are called field trips. One-day educational field studies are often made by classes as extracurricular exercises, e.g. to visit a natural or geographical feature.

How this will increase revenue ?

• This will help in oraganizing more trips. Hence, there will be more profit.

• Trips will be budget friendly so more people can afford.

• More people will prefer this as this will save time & money.

Travel bubble : A way of earning in pandemic situation

            WHAT IS TRAVEL BUBBLE ?

Travel bubbles, also known as travel corridors and corona corridors, are essentially an exclusive partnership between neighboring or nearby countries that have demonstrated considerable success in containing and combating the COVID-19 pandemic within their respective borders. These countries then go on to re-establish connections between them by opening up borders and allowing people to travel freely within the zone without having the need to undergo on-arrival quarantine.

The proliferation of the term was pioneered by three Baltic states, namely Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, when they formed a trilateral partnership granting citizens of said countries entry into the member countries’ territories. This free passage would eventually be referred to as a travel bubble.

OTHER  TRAVEL BUBBLES AROUND WORLD

Austria – Germany

Austria is planning to fully reopen its borders with Germany by June 15, 2020. The travel bubble would allow business and leisure trips to be made between said countries. Austria is also planning on expanding its travel sphere to eventually include Switzerland, Liechtenstein and “neighboring eastern European countries.”

Croatia – Slovenia

The Baltic states of Croatia and Slovenia formed an agreement to set up a quarantine-free travel bubble between them in May 2020. Croatia’s tourism sector accounts for roughly 20 percent of the country’s total GDP, which renders the travel bubble with Slovenia a welcome relief.

Denmark – Norway

The two Scandinavian countries have agreed to establish a travel bubble and reopen tourism between them, while notably excluding Sweden. Both Denmark and Norway will maintain restrictions for Sweden, as it’s still the country with the highest coronavirus-related deaths in the region.

UK – Exempted Countries

The UK has issued an official list of exempted countries and has established travel corridors with the following countries and territories. Consequently, travelers visiting or returning home to the UK will not be subjected to on-arrival quarantine.

India – Canada

A bilateral travel bubble between the countries India and Canada is now operational. the Director General of Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) stated that as per bubble agreement, all Indian nationals holding Canadian passport with valid visas are allowed to travel between Canada and India. Conversely, Canadian nationals and residents are also allowed to travel from Canada to India and vice versa.
